Subject: Research network - apology and law - invitation to join email list

Dear ODG members,

A small group of academics have formed an international network to support and encourage research on apologies and law. I know some of you in the Obligations Discussion Group are interested in this area of research (some of you may have already received an invitation to join).  This email is to invite interested ODGers to subscribe to the INLAR (International Network for Law and Apology Research) email list.

Apology and law is emerging as a specific focus within the broad multidisciplinary field of apology research with academics throughout the world working on a range of research questions. Research in the apology and law field is undertaken by researchers who often work in isolation and who publish and present papers in a range of journals and conferences without a specific apology and law focus. We believe there is potential for better coordination of research and for the outcomes of research on apology and law to have greater impact. We seek to facilitate communication of research ideas and outcomes and national and international collaboration between researchers working in the field.

As there is only a small number of researchers working in the field it is not likely that it will be feasible to establish a journal or organise regular conferences that focus on apology and law research. A web-based research network therefore is an ideal way to method to link researchers in the field and share information and ideas. This email list is one step towards establishing this web-based research network. Steps are also underway to create a webpage for the Network.

You are invited to subscribe to the INLAR email list and to contribute to the development of the Network. Subscribers may post directly to the list and you a welcome to share information that may be of interest to members.  You can view the list subscribers on the list webpage. You can also unsubscribe at any time. The list is administered Robyn Carroll at UWA which is the mailserver host institution.

To subscribe to the INLAR email list go to –

Please pass this invitation on to anyone you know is presently or potentially interested in apology and law research. Researches and scholars from all disciplines are invited to join and to build research connections via the network.  The ‘law’ aspect provides a context for the study of apologies and their inter-relationship. It is not intended to limit the disciplinary background of the members of the INLAR network.

Best regards,

Robyn Carroll
