A number of list members indicated interest in our symposium last year - I thought that they might be interested in hearing of the sequel.

ACC Conference 5-6 December : The Future of Accident Compensation: New Directions and Visions

Following the success of last year's conference on the history of Accident Compensation, this conference follows an earlier one on the history of the Accident Compensation scheme (August 2002) this conference will look at the future of the scheme. Speaker over the two days will explores the broad policy framework surrounding the current Accident Compensation scheme. The conference looks to a complex future when that framework will be tested by shifting definitions of risk, by pressures from coordinate fields of health, social welfare, and the environment, by further institutional blending of state and market, and by new approaches to accountability and responsibility. Through panel presentations and broad discussion, the conference hopes to sharpen future visions for public policies dealing with risk and responsibility, drawing also on international perspectives. The conference will cover the legislation of 2002, which invites new directions and priorities for Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Compensation. Details are available from Renee.tibbs@vuw.ac.nz or on the Centre of Public Law 's web site, www.vuw.ac.nz/nzcpl

The papers from last years' conference have been published in Victoria University of Wellington Law Review. Copies are available from law-review@vuw.ac.nz.
