Subject: Pathways
to Justice for Survivors of Institutional Abuse Conference
Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to invite
you to the Pathways to Justice for Survivors of Institutional Abuse Conference,
which will be held in person in Sydney, Australia, on 19-20 September, 2025
from 8:30am-5:00pm AEST. There are also online attendance options (via
interactive livestream or deferred full conference recording options).
The conference brings
together a wide range of leading private and comparative law academics,
practitioners and judges and other stakeholders to consider vicarious liability
and other forms of tortious and statutory liability of institutions for child
abuse, as well as redress schemes. The 50 speakers include numerous members of
this list.
The program will explore
doctrinal uncertainties, law reform, and the recommendations of commissions of
inquiry in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and others for providing pathways
to justice for survivors of institutional abuse by way of redress and civil
litigation.
The conference features
presentations from a stellar lineup of speakers and commentators, and will be
opened by the Hon Peter McClellan AM KC, the chair of the Australian Royal
Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse:
The full program,
website and registration is available here: https://pathways.openlaw.com.au/
Anyone is welcome to
attend and the issues will be of relevance to all common law jurisdictions.
If you are interested in
attending and have any questions, please contact one of us on the conference
organising committee:
