Subject: Call for
Papers Canadian Law of Obligations V (CLO V) May 28 29, 2026
Dear ODG members,
Following on from our earlier 'save the date' message, I'm pleased to share that the Call for Papers for the fifth biennial Conference on the Canadian Law of Obligations (CLO V) is now open.
The conference will take place May 28-29, 2026, at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, and the theme is:
'Dissenting Voices in Canadian Private Law'
We welcome abstracts and applications from scholars at all career stages, including graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for participants to critically examine prevailing doctrines and explore perspectives - doctrinal, theoretical, or comparative - that challenge dominant understandings. Topics will include, but are not limited to, dissenting judicial opinions, underappreciated doctrinal developments, and structural critiques of private law in theory and practice.
We invite submission of abstracts relating to the conference theme in the areas of torts, contracts, trusts, restitution, unjust enrichment, remedies, or other areas of Canadian private law. At the same time, we also welcome papers on other topics in Obligations not strictly related to the conference theme. Submissions may be of either complete papers or works in progress. A limited number of papers may be invited for inclusion in a published essay collection on the conference theme following the event.
Submissions can be made through the conference website: www.cdnobligations5.ca, where you'll also find further information about the conference schedule and logistics.
The
deadline for abstract submissions is November 1, 2025.
Decisions will be communicated by November 30, 2025.
We are honoured to welcome Madam Justice Suzanne Côté of the Supreme Court of Canada as our first confirmed keynote speaker, with a second keynote to be announced in the coming months.
Queries regarding the conference can be directed to CLOV@tru.ca.
Please feel free to share this Call for Papers with colleagues, graduate students, and early career scholars who may not yet be on the ODG list-serve but would be interested in participating.
We look forward to receiving your proposals and to welcoming many of you to Kamloops in 2026.
Warm regards,
Krish
