ODGers,
On Tuesday June 2, 2026, Anthony Sangiuliano and I are hosting a symposium on Public
Values and Innovation in Tort. We will be workshopping seven papers with a
small group of authors at Osgoode Hall Law School for an upcoming Special Issue
of the Journal of Tort Law.
During the morning session (9am - 12:30pm Eastern Time) we will be discussing
four papers on the topics of the tort of bribery, the law of wrongful
conception, bias in the tort of negligence, and the creation of torts in US
state common law. The afternoon session (1:30pm - 4:45pm ET) will feature a
plenary discussion on Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, 2026
SCC 16, followed by three papers that address and debate the value of
expressivism in tort law.
This is a pre-read workshop: there will be 45 minutes of Q&A
discussion on each paper. The papers will not be 'presented' by their author.
ODGers who would like to participate in either the morning session or the
afternoon session or both, reading the papers in advance, are welcome to join
the symposium remotely via Zoom. If that is you, you can email me (Sam) and I
will provide access to the program, which will link to the papers and Zoom
connection details.
