The SLAPPs Research Group and the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law are hosting a conference at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Canada on June 17-18, 2027. We invite submissions for papers on any topic related to anti-SLAPP law. The conference will be academic in focus, while also incorporating law reform and public engagement activities and offering opportunities for networking and peer discussion. 

The theme of the conference is to assess the effectiveness of Canada’s anti-SLAPP laws and to draw lessons from the Canadian experience for other jurisdictions. As one of the earlier jurisdictions to adopt anti-SLAPP legislation, the strengths and weaknesses of Canada’s laws are becoming apparent, providing lessons for jurisdictions that have recently adopted anti-SLAPP legislation or are considering whether to do so. As such, we particularly welcome submissions that engage Canadian anti-SLAPP law directly, as well as those bringing a comparative perspective from other jurisdictions. However, any scholarship on a topic engaging with anti-SLAPP law is welcome.

If interested, please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words to slapps@unb.ca by October 15, 2026, though earlier submissions are encouraged. Decisions will be communicated by October 31.
