Subject: [RDG] Annual Workshop on Commercial and Consumer Law

I apologize for cross-posting with the ODG, but I echo Jason Neyers in

saying that the Annual Workshop on Commercial and Consumer Law is an

excellent meeting and deserves everyone's support. It is one of the main

venues for the regular sharing of private law scholarship in Canada. It is

usually in Toronto but sometimes moves around, and as you will see below,

next October it will be here in Montreal.

Anyone who wishes to contact Stéphane Rousseau with suggestions for the

programme can reach him at  <stephane.rousseau@umontreal.ca>.

I will re-post with the programme when it is announced.

Dear Colleagues,

At last year's Annual Workshop, the Université de Montréal, Faculty of Law,

offered to host the Annual Workshop in 2009, and the invitation was accepted

enthusiastically.  It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce, in

collaboration with Annual Workshop Convener Professor Emeritus Jacob Ziegel,

that the 39th Annual Workshop on Commercial and Consumer Law will be held in

Montréal on October 16-17, 2008.

With the generous permission of Chief Justice Robert of Quebec, the Workshop

will be held in the magnificent Court of Appeal (Palais de Justice) building

in Old Montréal. There are also moderately priced hotels and excellent

restaurants in the vicinity of the Palais, which greatly add to its appeal

as the venue for the Annual Workshop.

Please mark your calendars with the dates. We expect once again to offer a

varied and stimulating programme dealing with current developments, domestic

and international, in the broadly interpreted Commercial and Consumer Law

areas. As is traditional at the Workshop, the Saturday afternoon will be

earmarked for short presentations of work-in-progress, especially by younger

colleagues. If you are interested to make a presentation, please advise me

or Jacob Ziegel at your early convenience. We expect to circulate the draft

programme in the Spring of this year.

The Université de Montréal is excited at the prospect of acting as host of

this year's Annual Workshop and of bringing such a celebrated national forum

to Montreal. The bilingual and bijuridical format of this year's Workshop

will undoubtedly add a special dimension to this year's Workshop.

Comments and suggestions from colleagues would be appreciated as soon as

possible.  Please feel free to forward this e-mail to  any colleague,

Canadian or non-Canadian, who may not be on our mailing list.

With our cordial and best wishes for the new year,

Very sincerely,

Stéphane Rousseau and Jacob Ziegel
