List members may be interested by Amalgamated Metal Corporation Plc v Wragge & Co (A Firm) [2011] EWHC 887 (Comm) in which the defendant solicitors have been ordered to pay £7.5 million damages for accepting a settlement offer from HMRC in connection with their client’s Metallgesellschaft claim on the basis that simple rather than compound interest would be payable.
