I post this announcement on behalf of Francesco Giglio:
On 11 and 12 September 2014, a conference will take place in Groningen, The Netherlands, on:
'Understanding Legal Reasoning: A Role for History and Philosophy in Modern Private Law'
Philosophers, historians and private lawyers will gather together to discuss how history and philosophy can provide a useful contribution to the development of modern private law. This is the second conference (but the first
in English) organised under the aegis of the Groningen Circle, a group founded in 2011 the aim of which is to investigate historical and philosophical influences on private law. The Circle adopts the concept of Law As an Open System (LAOS): its members examine
how non-legal, philosophical and historical, principles affect the intellectual process through which the private lawyer understands and construes legal mechanisms.
