Dear Colleagues
I'm writing with information about three unjust enrichment events taking place in London next month.
On Thursday 12 May, at 6 pm, Peter Watts will give a Current Legal Problems lecture at UCL entitled “Unjust Enrichment” – The Pill that Induces Well-meaning Sloppiness of Thought", to be followed by a drinks reception. This is a public lecture open to all for no charge. Details are here: http://www.laws.ucl.ac.uk/event/ucl-clp-just-restitution-is-a-better-concept-than-unjust-enrichment/
On Monday 16 May, at 5.30 pm, Ben McFarlane and Charles Mitchell will hold a seminar in Inner Temple Hall on current issues in the law of unjust enrichment, to be followed by a drinks reception kindly sponsored by One Essex Court. This is a CPD session primarily aimed at commercial practitioners and a fee is payable for attendance, the proceeds going to the UCL Private Law Group. Details are here: http://www.laws.ucl.ac.uk/event/unjust-enrichment-2/
On Tuesday 17 May, at 10.30 am, the Supreme Court will commence hearing the appeal in HMRC v Investment Trust Companies (in liq), an entertainment which is listed for three days and which I assume will be live-streamed on the SC website. The panel will comprise Lords Neuberger, Mance, Reed, Carnwath and Hodge, and there should be extended discussion of the question whether and if so when claims in UE are permitted against the remote recipients of benefits.
Best wishes
Charles
