RDG members based in Canada will already know that the Rt. Hon. Brian Dickson died in his sleep at his home on 17 October at the age of 82. He was a member of the Supreme Court of Canada 1973-1990, and Chief Justice of Canada 1984-1990. His judgments shaped Canadian law, especially under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but many were also important in the law of restitution. Pettkus v. Becker, Hydro Comm of Nepean v. Ontario Hydro, Sorochan v. Sorochan and Hunter v. Syncrude come to mind, but no doubt there were many others.
