Re:
Class action settlement

Last October I announced that there was a class action pending in the States regarding the unauthorized provision in electronic form of law journal articles and other materials. I learned about it from Rick Bowes at the 30th Annual Workshop on Commercial and Consumer Law.

I do hope those who were eligible registered. My colleague William Tetley has just sent me the copy of the letter he received from Arthur Andersen on this matter, and if I am reading it correctly, the settlement pool was US$2.7 million in respect of 3,612 unauthorized downloads. This means that those whose rights were so wantonly violated get US$750.07 per download. In Bill's case there was only one download, hence $750.07. It does make me wish that my own copyright had been breached.
